A garden of flowers in a rainbow of pretty spring colors will brighten your home year-round with this fresh floral set that makes a great project for using up partial balls of colorful size 10 thread.

Materials

  • J&P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen crochet cotton size 10: 450 yds new ecru #61, 120 yds each spruce #179 and mid rose #46A, 100 yds maize #123, 64 yds crystal blue #25, 21 yds lilac #36, 12 yds almond pink #35
  • Size B/1/2.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 12–13-inch ruffled lilac pillow
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

Rnds 1 and 2 = 7/8 inch; square = 4 1/2 inches
Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Notes

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Pattern Stitches

Medium shell (for flower): [Hdc, dc, tr, ch 3, tr, dc, hdc] in indicated st.

Small shell: [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in indicated st.

Large shell: [3 tr, ch 3, 3 tr] in indicated st.

Runner

Note: For Runner, make 7 squares of pattern 1 colors and 8 squares of pattern 2 colors in parentheses.

Square

Rnd 1 (RS): With mid rose (maize), ch 4, join to form a ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join in beg sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 1, [sc in next sc, ch 1] rep around, join in beg sc, fasten off. (12 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 3 (RS): Draw up a lp of maize (crystal blue) in any ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same ch sp, ch 2, [sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2] rep around, join in beg sc, sl st into ch-2 sp.

Rnd 4 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same ch sp, medium shell in next ch-2 sp, [sc in next ch-2 sp, medium shell in next ch-2 sp] rep around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 5 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, [{sc, ch 2} 3 times and sc] in next ch-3 sp, [ch 1, sk 1 st, sc in next st] 3 times, rep from * around, ending with ch 1, sk last st, join in beg sc, fasten off, turn.

Arrange squares 3 x 5 in alternate colors beg with pattern color 1 and making sure that points of stars are all facing in the same direction.

Work Rnd 10 around first square, then join others as follows, continuing in pattern st, connect ch-2 sps at side small shell points and corner ch-4 and ch-6 sps. To connect ch-2 sps, ch 1, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-2 sp, ch 1 and continue. To connect ch-4 sps, ch 2, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-4 sp, ch 2 and continue. To connect ch-6 sps, ch 3, drop lp, draw lp under to over through opposite ch-6 sps, ch 3 and continue. Continue to rep until all 15 squares are joined.

Border

Note: Shell for border rnd is [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in indicated st. Work in specified sts and sps, skipping over other sts and sps.

Pillow Topper

Notes: Make 5 Squares of pattern 1 colors and 4 squares of pattern 2 colors in parentheses. Join squares 3 x 3. Then sew onto pillow top with matching thread through sts of Rnd 10 of squares.

Work Rnds 1 and 2 with maize (lilac), Rnds 3–5 with mid rose (maize), Rnds 6 and 7 in spruce (mid rose), Rnd 8 with lilac (almond pink), and Rnds 9 and 10 and border with new ecru.

This is just beautiful, I love the colors and I do enjoy changing color when I crochet. I get bored pretty easy, and this is not so difficult it couldn't be a take along project and yet it is easy enough for everyone. It doesn't even take forever to complete for we impatient people. I hope you enjoy this free crochet pattern.
